Most Nigerians across social media platforms are displeased with the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) which affirmed the declaration of Bola Tinubu as President by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

They criticised both the PEPC and the INEC in clear language that conveyed their disappointment with, and distrust of, both institutions.

The PEPC on Wednesday dismissed the petitions of Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of Labour Party (LP) after the Justices had rejected some key witnesses and submissions the petitioners presented at hearing.

The delivery of the judgment was broadcast live for more than 13 hours, the longest time a court has taken to deliver a verdict in Nigeria, especially in an election petition.

Below are some of the views of Nigerians on the judgment across X (Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook, as compiled by The PUNCH:

#Drelmoatiku

“INEC – The law says it is mandatory we must electronically transmit results in real-time from the polling units to the IREV.

“Justice Tsammani – You be mumu. The law doesn’t say it’s compulsory. Don’t go and put yourself into trouble.

“Justice Tsammani became INEC chief witness and defendant in court. What a sad day for democracy and our electoral laws. #PEPTJudgment #SupremeCourt.”

#TheSearhIbrahim

“Let the World know: What Justice Tsammani did today at the PEPT is worse than any military coup.”

“Selective Amnesia That’s what happened at PPT yesterday. Justice Tsammani practically said things that didn’t happen during the proceedings. What a country.”

#Masuzafi

“Justice Tsammani just ruled that there was no evidence of election malpractice in the 2023 presidential elections regardless of the facts the court was presented with.

“A typical third-world judgment. I will strongly advise that before we fix this country, let us fix ourselves first.”

#Yakubuaolamiotan

“You didn’t defeat Peter Obi and Atiku, you only paid your way through.”

#Soloblinkz

“As a student of law and a lawyer, no matter which side you belong to, you should be ashamed of what the justices are doing today in the courtroom.”

But a few others applauded the judgment and congratulated Tinubu

#TBR_redords

“Jagaban [Tinubu], the man of the moment I see the hand 🖐 of God upon #officialasiwajubat your mandate was truly orchestrated by God.

“From the decisions you have taken so far, I am convinced you will do a lot for this country. At last, a new Nigeria 🇳🇬 is here.”

#TaiwoKayode

“Congratulations to you sir, this is time for you to prove to us that you are far better than other past presidents, once again congratulations I wish you the best of luck.”
