Morocco on Friday, was hit by a 6.8 magnitude earthquake which left over 800 people dead

Morocco have announced the postponement of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final qualifying fixture against Liberia following an earthquake in the country.
Over 800 people have been confirmed dead so far, after the 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit near Marrakech on Friday night, with hundreds left injured.
The AFCON qualifier was earlier scheduled for Saturday, September 8 in Agadir, Morroco.

The decision to move the game was confirmed via a statement released on the Royal Moroccan Football Federation’s official website.
It reads: “Following the earthquake that affected some regions in Morocco, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation announces the postponement of the match that was to take place on Saturday evening, September 9, 2023, between the national team and its Liberian counterpart, in the final round of the qualifiers for the 2024 African Cup of Nations – Côte d’Ivoire; Until a later time, in agreement with the Confederation of African Football.
“After this great injury, the national football family extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and wishes a speedy recovery to all the injured.”
Meanwhile, Sao Tome and Principe head coach, Adriano Eusebio, has vowed to stop a repeat of his side’s annihilation by the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The True Patriots were pummelled 10-0 on home soil when they hosted the Super Eagles in the reverse fixture last June.
Speaking ahead of the match billed for the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Sunday, Eusebio said his team will fight hard to avoid another heavy.
He said: “We are here to fight and not lose heavily again. We can’t repeat the same mistakes we made in the first game,” Eusebio told the media in Uyo.
“We have nothing to fight for in this game, but we have a chance to try new players.”
