Ovation magazine publisher Dele Momodu is optimistic that the strange political bedfellows who have taken over the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have agreed in principle that internal struggle for power will not destroy the coalition and they will unite for their presidential ticket.
Momodu expressed delight on Arise Television at the formal launch of the coalition, and enthused that opposition politicians in the ADC are ready to unseat Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress from the presidential Villa in 2027.
He said the coalition politicians are placing Nigeria above personal interests, they already know what will likely happen in power-sharing and would not let it divide them.
“I believe that, in principle, they know what is likely to happen, and they’ve decided, they’ve promised that they will not allow that to divide them, right. That for me is joyful. I’m excited.”
The launch of the coalition on Wednesday, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was attended by top politicians including:
- Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP)
- Former Ogun Governor Rauf Aregbesola
- Former Senate President David Mark
- Former APC National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun
- Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai
- Former federal Attorney General and Justice Minister Abubakar Malami
- Former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi
- Former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal
- Former Cross River Governor Liyel Imoke
- Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed of the LP
- Former Senator Dino Melaye
- Former Senator Elisha Abbo
All of them joined the coalition from the PDP, APC, and LP.
Momodu, a member of the PDP, said politicians in the ADC are not in the party just to grab power.
But 2023 ADC presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu has kicked against the adoption of his party as a coalition platform by opposition politicians.
He described the opposition figures taking over the ADC as “enemies of Nigeria.”
