The Minister of Transport, Sen. Idris Umar, has called on the electorate in Gombe state to eschew violence in the upcoming general elections.
Reports have it that INEC has scheduled March 28 for the Presidential and National Assembly poll, and April 11 for the Governorship and National Assembly election.
Umar made the appeal while speaking with newsmen in Deba, headquarters of Yamaltu/Deba local government area of the state on Wednesday night.
He advised the electorate to conduct themselves orderly to have peaceful polls.
“Well, we thank God, the elections are here on Saturday the 28th of March this year and of course, on the 11th of April of this year.
“My message to the people of Gombe state and Nigeria as a whole is that we should conduct ourselves orderly during the elections so that we have peaceful conduct of the elections,” he urged.
Assessing his campaign tour to Yamaltu/Deba local government area, the minister said people were excited and willing to vote.
He expressed the belief that with the assurances given by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the polls would be successful.
Addressing party faithful earlier in towns and villages of the area, Umar urged them to re-elect President Goodluck Jonathan to sustain the developmental efforts in the country.
Umar visited Dadin Kowa, Kanawa, Jagale, Nono, Hina, Dasa, Deba Lano and Kunuwal towns.
The minister reminded the people that the dividends of democracy they had enjoyed was possible through the support of the president to Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo.
He stressed the need for them to re-elect them and other PDP candidates at all levels to sustain the achievements.
The minister told them that the president had brought sanity in fertiliser distribution, modernisation of the Almajiri education and many other projects in the country.
In their remarks, the Emir of Deba, Alhaji Abubakar Mahdi, and other traditional leaders in the area, thanked both the state and federal governments for the developmental strides in their respective domains.
They prayed for peaceful conduct of the elections in the country.
