President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has aimed a dig at United States President-elect, Donald Trump, arguing that his country should be renamed “Mexican America.”

She trolled the incoming US president on Wednesday, during her regular morning press conference.

Prior to this, Trump, who will be sworn in for a second term on January 20, had on Tuesday vowed to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.

According to him, changing the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America, has a beautiful ring.

He added, “It’s appropriate. And Mexico has to stop allowing millions of people to pour into our country.”

Trump went on to claim that Mexico was run by drug cartels.

Apart from this, the Republican Party  chieftain in the run-up to his return to office, repeatedly lashed out at Mexico, threatening to impose stiff tariffs on imports from one of the United States’ biggest trading partners unless it halted the flow of illegal migrants and drugs across the border.

He also revived a threat from his first term to designate Mexican drug cartels as terrorist groups.

Responding to Trump’s tantrums during her parley with journalists, Sheinbaum displayed a 17th-century world map showing North America as ‘Mexican America.’

While pointing out that the Gulf of Mexico was the name recognised by the United Nations, she turned the tables on Trump, saying: “Why don’t we call it (the United States) Mexican America? It sounds nice, doesn’t it? He talked about names; we too are talking about the name.”

On claims that Mexico is run by drug cartels, she replied the US President-Elect saying the Mexicans rule their country.

Sheinbaum, however, assured that she expected to have good relations with the incoming U.S. president.
