Mexican boxer, Canelo Alvarez, has explained his decision to offer an apology to Lionel Messi after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, insisting nobody is infallible.

The pugilist had an outburst with the football star after he accused him of disrespecting the Mexican national flag following Argentina’s World Cup 2-0 win over Mexico but he later apologised.

Explaining in detail why he decided to apologise to the former Barcelona captain, Alvarez said he realised he made a mistake after their heated exchanges.

He further attributed his outburst to his passion for supporting his country, Mexico

“You have to admit when you are wrong. It doesn’t make you better or worse. You have to admit when you make a mistake,” Alvarez told Univision Fresno (via Express).

He added: “The euphoria of supporting the Mexican team at the moment and to see them losing like that….Well obviously, you don’t put too much thought into your actions. But you have to recognise when you mess up and that is it.”
