Messi and Barcelona may settle for £100m release clause fee

-

Even though the negotiations between Jorge Messi, the father and agent of Lionel Messi and the President of Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu were deadlocked on Wednesday night, Telegraph newspaper in UK has dropped hints that the troubled footballer may be let off for just €100m.

Barcelona president is insisting on €700 million release fees. The newspaper has it that since both Barcelona and Messi wished to avoid legal actions, a€100m fee could be a realistic consensus.

As things stand now, the 33-year-old wants to quit the Catalans on a free transfer – something a clause in his contract allows him to do at the end of each season.

The club, on the other hand, continues to insist on his €700m release clause as the deadline for the Argentine’s free transfer expired on June 10.
Messi’s camp and Barca don’t want to take the case to court and the €100m exit fee is viewed as a realistic consensus, as per the quite reliable British source.

Manchester City who have been touted as the frontrunners for the 33-year-old, are more than capable of meeting the aforementioned price.

What’s unclear is if the Premier League side manages to meet Messi’s wage demands as the Argentine earns around €565,000 a week after tax at Camp Nou
