Mercy Johnson confesses she had a cancer scare

Mercy Johnson opened up on the cancer scare after ace actress, Joke Silva revealed how she coped with her husband’s dementia during an interview

Nigerian actress, film director and film producer, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, has revealed that her doctor placed her on medication for the rest of her life after a cancer scare. 

The thespian made the confession  while hosting veteran actress Joke Silva on the latest edition of her cooking show, Mercy’s Menu on Thursday, January 12.

It all started when Silva during the show narrated how she was about to cope after her husband and veteran actor, Olu Jacobs was diagnosed with dementia. 

According to the ace actress, accepting her husband’s new reality helped her to manage the situation better.

After listening to her, Mercy too spoke about her cancer scare and went on to reveal she had a surgery, in which her thyroid (a gland in the throat) was removed.

She went on to say after going under the knife, she was later placed on medication for life. The actress also narrated how she and her husband, Odi Okojie, managed the situation.

Mercy said, “I’ve never discussed it where I had a cancer scare and I had my thyroid removed. It was like a journey for us. We had kids and my last was six months at that time.

“We kept saying that we have to understand that, ‘this is the new us. Let’s go get the surgery done’. And when we got there, they said I was going to be on medication for the rest of my life.

“It was a reality that we had to sit down. They told me at a time ‘you cannot miss your medication. As you wake up, that’s the first thing’.”
