Former Manchester City defender, Benjamin Mendy, has appreciated the jury that acquitted him of rape and attempted rape charges at Chester Crown Court in the United Kingdom.

This was disclosed in a statement released by his 28-year-old attorney, Jenny Wiltshire, where he also thanked all those who stood by him throughout the trying period, as he began to rebuild his career.

According to him, members of the jury focused on the evidence in the case, rather than the innuendos surrounding the trial.

The statement by the footballer’s lawyer read: “Benjamin Mendy would like to thank the members of the jury for focusing on the evidence in this trial rather than on the rumour and innuendo that have followed this case since the outset.

“He thanks everyone who has supported him throughout this ordeal and now asks for privacy, so he can begin to rebuild his life,”

Mendy on Friday, July 14, was cleared of all rape charges by the Chester Crown Court and the Frenchman is now a free man.

The footballer, whose contract with Manchester City expired this month, was cleared at the earlier trial of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, relating to four young women or teenagers.

But jurors failed to reach verdicts on two counts of rape and attempted rape, prompting a re-trial.

But the former Monaco man was eventually cleared after three hours of deliberation by a jury.
