Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, has offered a N1 million reward for information that will lead to the arrest of the hooded lady who alleged that police inspector, Christopher Marcel Nabugwu, was living beyond his means.
The masked lady had, in a video that went viral on social media, alleged that the police inspector owns a property worth over N250 million at No. 27 Remi Fani-Kayode Street GRA, Ikeja, uses exotic cars with customised vehicle license registered as “MCON” and worth over N2 billion in cash and assets.
These allegations caught the attention of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, who ordered an investigation, the source notwithstanding. According to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Chike Oti, investigation into the matter was painstakingly carried out.
He said: “At the end of the probe, it was clear that the allegations were not only false and misleading, but a calculated attempt to malign the good name of a hardworking police officer and to embarrass the police authorities.
The Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, said that the police was counting on the already established goodwill of Lagosians and indeed that of good Nigerians in getting credible information that would lead to the arrest of the masked woman.” Oti added that the arrest and prosecution of the masked woman would serve as deterrent to others who used social media platforms to maliciously destroy the good image of innocent Nigerians.
The lady, who presented herself as a whistle-blower, explained in the video that she masked her face because she didn’t want to endanger her life. Speaking in the video, she said: “I don’t know what will happen to me if my face is exposed. This man, Inspector Marcel Christopher Nnabugwu, is known as MCON. He uses MCON as car number plate.
There is nobody who goes to nightclub on Lagos Island who doesn’t know him. Immediately he enters, the place will ‘shut down.’ Just last month, this guy celebrated his 30th birthday at a club in Ikoyi and almost all the well-known rich men and celebrities were there.
His house in GRA Ikeja is worth over N250 million. “But let me shock you, I travelled to Owerri last week to see my uncle at Mopol 18 Barracks and that was where I saw this guy in the uniform of police sergeant, carrying AK47.
If this guy is truly a police sergeant, since when have police sergeants in Nigeria started having such money? But if this guy is not a police sergeant, how come he is wearing a police uniform with the rank of a sergeant and armed with AK47?”
