Mbaka said Igbos should present another candidate outside Obi if they want the presidency, adding that an ‘old man president’ is better than a ‘stingy young man’

Members of the online community have berated the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, for predicting the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi will lose the 2023 presidential election because he is stingy.
Mbaka during one of his programmes in Enugu said that the former Anambra State governor is not known to give and because Nigeria needs a generous leader, he is unlikely to get elected, warning electorates not to vote for him if they don’t want to die of hunger.
He said, “A stingy man, that cannot give people his money, with this hunger ravaging the land, and you are saying he is the one you want. You want to die of hunger? Are you people insane? Where is the Holy Spirit?”

Mbaka went on to assert that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar dumped Obi because he needed a serious partner to clinch the presidency in 2023.
“It is now that Atiku is seriously contesting for President; now that he is contesting without Peter Obi; it is now that he is serious.
“We want somebody that is serious. Unless Peter comes here to kneel, if he becomes president, he will close down this ministry. What we are doing is spiritual.” Mbaka added.
The Catholic priest also said Igbos should present another candidate outside Peter Obi if they want to be president, adding that an ‘old man president’ is better than a ‘stingy young man’.
“Listen, a good old man is better than a young wicked man; Peter Obi is going nowhere as far as God lives. If Igbos want a representative, it is not someone like Peter Obi.” he further narrated.
Mbaka later told the gathering that his apology to Peter Obi the last time he criticised him was not due to regret, but he did under duress and out of respect for his Bishop.
He continued, “I should not have talked but I saw my video going round everywhere as if Fr. Mbaka wholeheartedly came out and apologised.
“No, I didn’t apologise wholeheartedly, it was out of duress. I had to obey my Bishop. In obedience I had to; it is not of my volition. I did it because I am a Catholic priest, my Bishop said, do it, my own is ‘Yes my Lord’.
“I did not say he(Obi) is a bad man; I said he is a stingy man. A hungry man wants someone that is generous; the man has so much money, but he is ‘I, me, myself’. But that money will not be useful to him. I am very happy now that I have spoken out. That apology is a poisonous curse against Peter Obi”
The Reverend Father concluded by saying anyone supporting the Labour Party flag bearer is wasting his time and money.
“If he is wise he should have come here after that apology to say he is sorry but he waited. Anybody supporting him is wasting his money, he is going nowhere,” Mbaka concluded.
Nigerians who saw the video of the programme later took to various social media platforms to lambast the controversial man of God, they also knocked the cleric for his comments, urging him to remain apolitical.
A clergyman, identified as Pastor Blessed Uzoho said, “Even Fr Mbaka couldn’t push Peter Obi to do what he doesn’t want to do even when he told him God was involved and related it with winning election. Peter stood on his principles. SHI SHI we won’t give. His tenacity and articulated savviness is 100%. Competence! #PeterObi4President2023”
Political commentator, Kayode Ogundamisi also said, “Rev Fr, Ejike Camillus Anthony Ebenezer Mbaka was doing “fyne bara” to @PeterObi and Obi rightly told him ‘Show me a project to develop in your church, I no dey give shi shi”. On this one o #IstandwithObi Mbaka’s open solicitations are becoming an embarrassment to Catholics.”
While Reno Omokri, a former aide to President Goodluck Jonathan said “Reverend Father Mbaka don buy market! At least they may leave me and face him!”
A few days to the presidential primary, Atiku’s running mate in 2019, Peter Obi, dumped the party and joined the Labour Party on whose platform he would contest the 2023 presidential election.
