Nigeria’s two-wheel taxi startup, Max.ng, has secured the backing of the Japanese manufacturer, Yamaha, as competition in bike ride-hailing services hots up in the country.
Max.ng raised $7 million in funding June after rivals, Gokada raised $5.7 million in May in Series A funding.
Based in Lagos, Nigeria, Max.ng plans to coordinate motorcycle taxi and delivery services for individuals and businesses in Nigeria.
The company says it will use the new funding to pilot e-motorcycles in Africa powered by renewable energy.
It also plans to invest in its tech infrastructure, expand to 10 cities and new vehicles including watercraft, three-wheeled taxis.
There has been an upsurge in bike ride-hailing services in Nigeria with new entrants like Opay joining the fray.
