Sixteen-year-old Max Dowman made history on Saturday night after helping North London outfit Arsenal defeat Everton in an English Premier League (EPL) encounter.

The winger was instrumental in the two goals that gave the Gunners a 2-0 victory over David Moyes’ side at the Emirates Stadium.

It looked as though Everton were going to frustrate Arsenal and battle to a well-earned draw, but Dowman’s floated cross into the box resulted in a tap-in for fellow substitute Viktor Gyökeres in the 89th minute after Jordan Pickford completely misjudged the cross.

The visitors then threw everyone forward as they hunted an equaliser from a stoppage-time corner.

However, with Pickford stranded upfield, Dowman beat two defenders before racing away to roll the ball into the empty net and spark wild scenes inside the Emirates Stadium.

With his goal, Dowman broke the record for the Premier League’s youngest scorer, previously set by Everton’s James Vaughan (16 years 270 days) in 2005.

According to OptaJoe, at 16 years and 73 days, he has now become the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history.

Dowman joined Arsenal’s youth team in 2015 from Billericay Town and currently represents England’s U-19 national team.

He will hope to earn some minutes in Arsenal’s Champions League return leg against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday.
