Matawalle reinstates monarch who conferred traditional title on notorious bandit leader, Ado Aliero

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has reinstated the Emir of Yandoto, Aliyu Maraca, after a committee cleared him of any untoward relationship with notorious bandit, Ado Aliero.

A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Kabiru Balarabe on Sunday, said “the reinstatement is based on the recommendations of the Committee constituted to investigate all issues pertaining to the conferment of a traditional title to a repentant bandit, Ado Aleiru.

“The committee found no evidence of any ill motive or collaboration between the Emir and the bandit.”

The committee further found that “the traditional title was conferred on the repentant bandit as part of peace building efforts between the repentant bandit and banditry affected communities in Tsafe and Gusau Local Government Areas, which include Yandoto town,” Mr Balarabe said.

Mr Balarabe said the monarch’s reinstatement was with immediate effect.

The Zamfara government suspended the Emir of Yandoto on July 18, 2022 for conferring a traditional title “Sarkin Fulanin Yandoto” on wanted bandit Ado Aliero.

The conferment generated public outcry.

Zamfara, like other states in northwest Nigeria is suffering under gripping activities of bandits who continue to defy various government military interventions and amnesty offers.
