Massive Obidients’ carnival welcomes Obi, he urges them to cast their ballots

Thousands of Obidients on Monday welcomed Peter Obi to Benin City, walking and massing around his SUV with chants of “Obi, Obi” in a carnival-like procession as the vehicle drove slowly to the mega rally the Labour Party (LP) held for the council ballot in Edo on September 2.

The local government area is “where development is domiciled,” Obi reiterated at the rally venue.

“Local government is the closest to the people and it is supposed to be the root of ensuring development for the people.

“The three most critical areas of development are health, education and poverty eradication and they are responsibilities of the local government.

“So, for the system to work, for a country to develop well, it is the local government, as everything that has to do with development is domiciled in the local government.

“That is why it is critical to our development and sustainability. As a Governor [in Anambra between 2006 and 2014], I was prevented by litigation from conducting local government elections for over six years.

“So, we are here today to support our candidates in the forthcoming local government election in Edo. We will support them with everything.”

Vote LP to protect your future, Obi says

Obi implored the electorate to vote en masse for candidates of the LP in the election, assuring them that in doing so, their future would be protected, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reporting by Daily Post.

LP National Chairman Julius Abure commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for putting modalities in place for the election but stressed the ballot must be free and fair.

“We have the best candidates that can man the local government system in Nigeria, hence, the need for the people to vote for all our candidates in the coming local government election,” Abure said.

Former Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) President Olumide Akpata, Edo LP governorship aspirant in 2024,  urged voters not to entertain fear but to go out and cast their ballots for all LP candidates in the council election.

He said LP candidates are persons of impeccable character who will deliver on the programmes of the LP.
