A bomb explosion has been reported in Kaduna State, this time around, the bomb went off at the Murtala Square in Ungwar Sarki area of Kaduna state.
The blast, said to have been targeted at Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, a popular Islamic cleric based in the state who was said to be holding the last of his Ramadan lecture which regularly draws a huge crowd.
A senior police officer on ground reported that not less than 25 persons were killed by the bomb blast which occurred in a busy commercial road in the northern city of Kaduna. The blast, which missed Bauchi, who had just conducting the prayers signalling the end of the event in Murtala Muhammed Square at the time, led to the death of several people around.
And although no group has claimed responsibility for the latest bomb blast incident, which is also the first since the beginning of the month of Ramadan which is held as highly sacred by Muslims, all clues point to dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
It is not the first time the cleric has been the target of the dreaded Boko Haram sect, with the last incident before this concerning a bomb detonated near his home in Kaduna but which also failed to affect him.
Bauchi is arguably the most popular antagonist of Boko Haram among Islamic clerics in the state and the northern region as a whole and has never refrained from condemning the group many times in the past.
