Manchester United’s Rashford idolises Real Madrid star, Ronaldo

-

Manchester United’s rising star Marcus Rashford has revealed how he looked up to Cristiano Ronaldo as his inspiration during the latter’s time at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo spent six seasons at Manchester United before his record £80 million ($106 million) move to Real Madrid in 2009.

Rashford, who has hugely impressed at United since making his debut in February, was in the club’s youth academy while Ronaldo was progressing towards the world’s footballing elite.

“When Cristiano Ronaldo came to United, he was the one who everyone looked up to,” Rashford said.

“The thing that impressed me the most was the fact he was only young when he came into the side, and he wanted to be the best player in the side.

“He worked hard every single day, you saw him in the gym every single day, and the results came on the pitch. He openly wanted to be the best player in the world.

“You have to have an approach like that—all the best players in the world do.

“It’s not arrogance or anything like that. It’s the mindset you need to achieve things.”

Rashford looks set to get his first start under new manager José Mourinho in the Europa League on Thursday when Manchester United takes on Feyenoord in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League.
