With the result on Sunday December 20, 2020, Manchester United has climbed to third position in the Premier League led by Liverpool with 31 points. Leicester came second with 27 points, while Manchester United closed up with 26 points as at Sunday December 20, 2020.
At the thrilling match played at Old Trafford, Scott McTominay’s first muninite shot opened the flood gate of goals for Manchester United. He made it double in the third munite – making him the first Premier League player to score two goals in three minutes.
Manchester United’s counter attack to the game rattled their visitors, as Bruno Fernandes’ powerful strike in the 20th minute ensured that the match was beyond Leads’ efforts.
Before the end of first 45th minute, Man Utd central defender, Victor Lindelof, scored his first goal in the 2019/2020 season through Tony Martial’s assist from a corner kick.
However, Leads pulled one back before half-time.
It came through Liam Cooper’s header from their own corner (42), with five goals and 18 shots in a chaotic first half, but Man Utd regained their four-goal lead as Daniel James shot through the legs of Illan Meslier (66) following a counter-attack.
Fernandes’ penalty made it 6-1 after Pascal Struijk fouled Martial (70), and the chaos continued as Stuart Dallas curled a beauty into the top right corner for 6-2 (73), sandwiched in-between several guilt-edged chances at both ends.
It somehow ended 6-2 – Man Utd in particular could have easily made double figures – with 43 shots registered between the sides, meaning Man Utd moved five points off leaders Liverpool with a game in hand.
“Liverpool are still the strongest, but United could be the best of the rest,” said Roy Keane on Sky Sports after the game.
