Police in Kano have arrested a man who confessed to killing a five-year-old boy in a bush where he lured him despite agreeing to collect N5 million ransom instead of the N20 million he originally demanded to free the child.
After news of the murder broke, enraged youths set on fire the family houses of the suspects, Ado Ibrahim, 29, and three others.
State Police Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Haruna, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed the victim’s father reported to the police around 5pm on 28 October that Hamza his son was kidnapped and the kidnappers demanded N20 million ransom to release him.
“The ransom was said to have been negotiated to N5 million, but the state Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Lawal, raised a team of Operation Restore Peace, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Doguwa division, CSP Bala Shu’aibu, to arrest the suspects,” Haruna explained in a statement.
“Sustained efforts coupled with intelligence-led follow-ups, led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Ado Ibrahim, 29, and three others. The principal suspect was arrested at his hideout.”
Haruna said Ibrahim confessed during interrogation that he single-handedly kidnapped the child around 7pm on 27 October by luring him to a nearby bush where he strangled him.
The body was later discovered by a team of police detectives and taken to Doguwa General Hospital where a doctor confirmed him dead, according to reporting by The PUNCH.

Court sentences Kano kidnappers to death over murder of 5-year-old child
A Kano High Court in July sentenced Abdulmalik Tanko and Hashim Isyaku to death by hanging for kidnapping and murdering a five-year-old child, Hanifa Abubakar.
Justice Usman Na’abba ruled the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt the defendants criminally conspired to abduct and murder the child.
Tanko is the proprietor of Nobel Kids Academy, Kwanar Dakata in Nassarawa Council of Kano State, the school Hanifa attended.
He abducted her on 2 December 2020 and took her to his house. He later contacted her family demanding a ransom of N6 million.
Despite collecting N100,000 as part of the ransom, he went ahead and killed the child. Police arrested him while trying to collect the remaining part of the ransom.
The way Hanifa was kidnapped and killed looked liked a scene in a horror movie.
Tanko dismembered her body after killing her with rat poison he bought at N100 (some said, N10) and buried her remains in a shallow grave on the school premises.
