Man City outclass Man United in derby

Man City increased their lead over Liverpool in 2nd significantly, while their city rival, United are now 5th and 1 point behind Arsenal

Manchester City thrashed Manchester United at Etihad Stadium to extend their lead at the top of Premier League to 6 points, though they have played a game more than Liverpool.

United were missing four players, Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani were injured, while Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw, were down with Covid-19. 

Kevin de Bruyne opened the scoring for City in the 5th minute with a crisp early finish after a pass from Portuguese midfielder, Bernado Silva.

Jadon Sancho restored parity for Man United in the 22nd minute with a precise low strike after Paul Pogba put him through on goal.

The Belgian then restored his Citys’ lead before half-time after he hammered the second home after a goalmouth scramble.

City became more dominant after the break and got their third goal in the 68th minute when Riyad Mahrez met De Bruyne’s corner on the half-volley to beat United keeper David de Gea. 

It got even worse for the visitors in the closing moments when Mahrez raced clear to beat De Gea and made it 4-1, the goal given after a lengthy VAR check for offside.

While Man City increased their lead over Liverpool in 2nd significantly, their city rival, United are now 5th and 1 point behind Arsenal in 4th having played 3 games more than the Gunners.
