Man City get tough Carabao draw as clubs await UCL opponents

Man City will face Newcastle in Carabao Cup’s third round draw conducted on Wednesday

Man City were not as lucky as other Premier League heavyweights as they were handed a tough away fixture against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup’s third round draw conducted on Wednesday night.

City rivals, Man United will host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, while Liverpool welcome championship side,  Leicester City at Anfield.

Arsenal will travel to Brentford to face fellow London club, while Chelsea also have a tough home fixture against Brighton at Stamford Bridge.

Elsewhere, Ipswich Town play Wolves, Exeter City welcome Luton Town,
Aston Villa host Everton, while Port Vale will square up against Sutton United.

Brentford City will also take on Middlesbrough, AFC Bournemouth welcomes Stoke City, Lincoln City tackle West Ham and Salford City will face Burnley.

Another London outfit, Fulham will attempt to beat Norwich City, Blackburn Rovers will engage Cardiff City, while Mansfield Town will play against Peterborough United.

All the ties are expected to be played during the weekend of September 25th.

Meanwhile, the draw for the group stage of the 2023/2024 Champions League will be conducted on Thursday, August 31.

It will be held at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco from 5pm West African Time (WAT).

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Man United, Arsenal, Man City, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan are some of the major clubs that will be competing in UEFA’s flagship tournament.

A total of 32 teams compete in the Champions League group stage and they will be divided into four pots of eight for the draw.

There are five teams from Spain and four each from England, Germany and Italy.

These teams account for more than half of the representation in the competition.
