Man bags 6-month jail for intimidation of FRSC officials, inciting mob action against them

A court has sentenced a man to six months imprisonment or an option of N20,000 fine for intimidating Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials and inciting passengers against them.

Nuhu Isah was jailed by a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Yola, according to a statement issued by FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide.

Chief Magistrate Mohammed Njidda handed down the sentence following an incident on January 5 when Isah recorded an FRSC patrol team while they were conducting their lawful duty.

He was said to have intimidated the officials and instigated a mob action against them, prompting his arrest and prosecution.

“A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Jimeta, Yola, Adamawa State presided by … Mohammed Njidda, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, convicted and sentenced one Mr Nuhu Isah to six months imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine, for criminally intimidating the FRSC Patrol team,” the statement said.

The statement quoted FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed as reiterating the agency’s commitment to ensuring safety on Nigerian roads.

He urged the public to cooperate with road safety initiatives and condemned acts that jeopardise the safety of road users and FRSC officers.

Mohammed affirmed that the FRSC remains undeterred in its mission to enforce road safety despite such challenges.

“The Corps Marshal calls on all road users to contribute their quota towards improving safety on the highway instead of engaging in acts inimical to safer road use.

“He emphasised the unwavering commitment of the FRSC towards creating safety on all Nigerian eoads and further reiterated that FRSC staff cannot be deterred by threats from miscreants.”

The FRSC recently deployed its full workforce to manage traffic and respond to emergencies during the festive season, in line with its commitment to maintaining safer highways nationwide.
