The police on Thursday arraigned one Ekene Emmeanuria of Dutse Alhaji Street, Zone 5 , Abuja, in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Karu, FCT, for stealing a car belonging to his girlfriend.
Emeanuria is facing a one-count charge of theft.
The prosecutor, Sgt Mohammed Garba, told the court that the matter was reported by one Nneka Osemeka of No 69, Lungi Road, Gwarimpa, Abuja, at the State CID, Abuja, on Feb. 16.
Garba said that on Jan. 30, the accused met Osemeka and asked her to have a date with him and she accepted the invitation.
He added that when the complainant met Emeanuria, they went for a lunch, after which they went clubbing at night.
The prosecutor said that “during the one-day outing, Emmeanria bought Osemeka some drinks and added some substance into it.’’
He said that at the end of the day, the complainant became intoxicated and her Honda accord car with registration number GU 154 ABC, was taken away by Emeanuria.
“The car also had some of Osemeka’s valuables, including clothes and office documents.
“Since that day, she never saw the accused nor her car again until he was sighted and arrested by the police after she had lodged complain.’’
The prosecutor said that the accused had admitted committing the crime during investigation, noting that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
However, the accused had pleaded not guilty to the offence and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Hadiza Dodo, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.
She ordered that the surety must be reasonable and responsible, with fixed, identifiable address, and a source of livelihood and adjourned the case until June 9 for hearing.
