Man, 23, docked for allegedly stealing N40,000 valuables

A 23-year-old man, Abayomi Ajala, was on Tuesday charged before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly stealing one Itel cell phone and other valuables worth N40,000.

 

Ajala, who lives at No. 29 Adetola St., Iyana-Ilogbo, in Ota, is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Lydia Omatahunde, told the court that the accused, and others at large, committed the offences on March 29 at about 1:30a.m at Pure Chemical Manufacturing Company, Ota.

 

Omatahunde said that the accused, and others large, stole a phone and other valuables worth N40,000 belonging to one Mr Emmanuel Ukimi.

 

She said that the accused were apprehended by the people and handed over to the police.

Omatahunde said that the offences contravened Sections 390 (4) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

 

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

 

The Magistrate, Mr Folarin Iroko, granted the accused N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

 

Iroko said that the sureties must be working and residing within the court’s jurisdiction and provide evidence of tax clearance payment within the last one year.

 

He said that one of the sureties must be the biological father of the accused, while the second surety must own landed property within the magisterial district.

 

The case was adjourned till May 6 for hearing.
