Makinde absent, Oyo PDP exco present as Atiku holds rally in Ibadan

PDP chairman in Oyo State, Dayo Ogungbenro, said the state would vote PDP from ‘top to bottom.’ He, however, advised Atiku to carry the aggrieved governors along on the march to ‘victory.’

The presidential campaign train of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) arrived Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State today, January 19 with all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and candidates of the party onboard without the Governor, Seyi Makinde.

Makinde is one of the aggrieved governors of the PDP who want the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, to resign and allow a Southerner to takeover the position in the spirit of national balancing. But Atiku has refused, leading to a standoff with the governors.

The rally, held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, was attended by a massive crowd, including all the executive council members of the PDP in Oyo State, all the party’s candidates and officials of the Oyo State Government.

The compere of the rally, Dino Melaye, thanked Makinde for rallying and mobilizing his supporters to attend the rally, saying Makinde demonstrated democratic ethos.

Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, said the attendance at the rally has given him the confidence that Oyo is for him. He promised to revamp the economy, establish a dry port in the state and guarantee the security of lives and properties.

Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP, Ifeanyi Okowa, said the crowd at Mapo hall is the biggest in the South West campaign of the party, a testament that Ibadan is the biggest city in the region, he said.

National Chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu, thanked Seyi Makinde for mobilising his supporters to the rally. He, urged, the aggrieved governors to ‘come back home.’

Atiku’s wife, Titi Abubakar, pleaded with the electorate to vote her husband, and return Makinde in the next election.

A leader of the PDP in Oyo State and former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Jumoke Akinjide, urged the people of Oyo State to vote Atiku Abubakar at the presidential poll and other candidates of the party.
