An Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has said that herdsmen currently depriving farmers access to their farms should be made forest guards.
The Islamic cleric also said schools should also be handed to the herdsmen to secure.
Gumi, during an ARISE TV interview, said just the way the Niger Delta militants who were vandalising pipelines were made pipeline guards, the same should be extended to the herdsmen.
He also said some of the herdsmen commanders who have about 300 militiamen, have proposed to offer to protect schools. He said that will make schools safer.
When reminded that the herdsmen have tasted crime and have found it more lucrative than regular jobs, he said the herdsmen were fighting because of their grievance with the government that has denied them basic amenities.
