The Labour Party (LP) former Presidential Aspirant, Okey Samuel Mbonu, has condemned the Tuesday massacre of the peaceful #EndSARS protesters by the Nigerian soldiers at the Lekki Toll Gate, Lago State.

Mbonu, who resides at the Washinton DC, made the condemnation via his media aide, Mr. Charles Adeyinka, on Thursday October 22, 2020.

The LP chieftain also flayed the Nigerian Army’s use of unlawful force to quell “unarmed” youthful protesters, contrary to the Constitution of Nigeria, and the African Human Rights Charter.

Mbonu further disclosed that the world was now watching the brutality of the Nigerian government against its own citizens in real-time.

He lamented that the unprovoked killing of youthful protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate, and other venues across Nigeria, means that the Nigerian government has drawn “first blood” against its citizens, and therefore should be prepared for the international repercussions and consequences of such action, either as individual actors, or as a government.

Mbonu stated that available video clips showed government officials picking up thugs in official vehicles, to counter, and attack peaceful protesters, just to discredit, or engage in mass killings of the peaceful protesters.

Besides, he encouraged the youth to march peacefully and uphold their dignity as first-class citizens of a coming new Nigeria; without encouraging mayhem or destruction of property.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 30 youths were killed, while many others sustained gunshot wounds during the shooting. Some videos from eyewitnesses at the scene of the incident showed some persons bleeding seriously, while others tried to extract the bullets.
