LMC promises more surprises in Glo league

-

After major upsets in Week 19 of the Glo Premier League (GPL) matches across the country, the League Management Company (LMC) has said that more surprises are on the way.

Nduka Irabor

Chairman of the company, Nduka Irabor, in a chat with TheNiche, praised game officials and urged them to keep up the tempo for the betterment of the league and the country’s football.

“We are gradually getting there and we will continue to improve on the standard of the game through officiating, security, play on the field as well as crowd control. We will also continue to disabuse our minds of the ‘win-at-all-costs’ syndrome, but encourage good football and good officiating,” he said.

While imploring the officials not to relent on their efforts, but to improve with every game, Irabor advised club officials to dwell more on hardwork than inducing match officials to decide games in their clubs’ favour.

“The clubs’ officials should concentrate more on hardwork as well as drilling their players for the tasks at hand, rather than looking for ways to have a shortcut to success,” he said.

In some of the matches of Week 19, former league leader, Sharks FC, lost 1-2 at home to Akwa United.

The Uyo side stunned its host with two goals within 35 minutes through Godspower Aniefiok and Ezekiel Bassey, while Sharks could only manage to score a late goal through Fortune Omoniwari.

In Aba, former Africa’s champion, Enyimba International FC, was held to a barren draw by Giwa FC.

The people’s Elephants found the new Giwa FC difficult to breach.

Giwa FC, now managed by former Super Falcons chief coach, Kadiri Ikhana, held off Enyimba’s wave of attacks to secure a famous draw that left the Aba-based club shocked.
