Liverpool legend, McManaman predicts UCL winner

McManaman, while discussing the chances of Manchester City in this year’s UCL, said they are likely to win the elusive trophy with a bit of luck

Ex-Liverpool winger, Steve McManaman, has tipped Pep Guardiola tutoured Manchester City to win this season’s UEFA Champions League (UCL).

McManaman, who played for Real Madrid and The Citizens during his displaying career, made this known while speaking on BT Sport on Thursday, August 25.

Manchester City were drawn into Group G, alongside La Liga club, Sevilla, German outfit, Dortmund and Danish champions, Copenhagen in the draw held in Istanbul, Turkey.

Discussing the chances of the Citizens in this year’s competition, McManaman believes they are likely to lift the elusive trophy with a bit of luck on their side.  

He said, “They are a great side and the favourites to win this competition.

“But sometimes you need a little bit more. That might come this year, that little bit of luck might go against them.”

McManaman also identified Group A as the most difficult group for an English side in Champions League this season.

Group A comprises Ajax, Liverpool, Napoli and Rangers.

According to him, his old club got the most difficult group among the English Premier League teams in the competition. 

He added, “Liverpool’s draw is possibly the most difficult of the English sides. Liverpool against Rangers stands out.

“I’m really looking forward to it. They know each other and the fans will be happy going up to Glasgow.”

Group B: Porto, At. Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Brugge

Group C: Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Inter, Viktoria Plzen

Group D: Eintracht Frankfurt, Spurs, Sporting CP, Marseille

Group E: Milan, Chelsea, Salzburg, Dinamo Zagreb

Group F: Real Madrid, RB Leipzig, Shakhtar, Celtic

Group H: PSG, Juventus, Benfica, Maccabi Hafia
