The Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. John Obafunwa, on Thursday urged the students of the institution to shun violence during the forthcoming polls.
According to the bulletin, Obafunwa advised students to perform their civic duties, make right choices, vote wisely and stay away from violence during the elections.
“Students should evaluate, decide and their choices should not be based on stomach infrastructure. Perform your civic duties and stay away from violence.
“Do not allow anyone to use you to foment trouble as there is life after the university,’’ the bulletin quoted the VC as saying.
It said that Obafunwa also called for a peaceful atmosphere devoid of industrial action in LASU, adding that strike was an impediment to a stable academic calendar.
“Peaceful environment will help the university to achieve a lot in the area of academics, convocation and National Youth Service for our students.
“Dialogue is better in resolving issues than locking down the university,’’ it also quoted Obafunwa as saying.
On the forthcoming 20th LASU convocation, the bulletin quoted the professor as saying that the ongoing projects at the university would be commissioned during the convocation week.
“The forthcoming convocation will be the fourth successive and this makes it very unique,’’ the bulletin said.
