To enhance a sustainable environment by improving upon its stipulated rules, the Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Authority (LASPEMA) has come out with a report aimed at ensuring strict compliance with standard operational guidelines for car wash operators in the state.
The agency’s acting General Manager, Olarenwaju Kazeem, disclosed that the agency has recorded increased success rate in compliance.
He attributed it to improved awareness campaigns on planning and environmental regulations.
The assessment was part of the agency’s mandate to regulate the activities of car wash operators by determining the total number of car wash outlets in the state and subsequently host regular stakeholders’ meetings.
According to Kazeem, “The agency is planning to achieve total compliance rate in monitoring car wash facilities in all the local government areas visited in the State.”
He also emphasised that through the strict monitoring of the operators and enhanced compliance with the standard operational guidelines, the agency will be achieve a safe, secure and a well-planned environment.
The LASPEMA boss also disclosed that the agency has intensified its activities of monitoring metal scrap dealers in a bid to ensure not only a safe and secure but also a sustainable environment.
He stated that overall target is to achieve total compliance rate within the next four years and assured that the Agency is working round the clock to achieve its goals.
LASPEMA has the mandate of monitoring physical development and environmental activities of sundry groups in the State and the identification of new development areas so as to make referrals to appropriate authorities for proper documentation and certification.
The agency requires all those interested in commencing car wash business to seek information on the operational guidelines in order to ensure that drainages, canals and roads are kept clean.
