Lampard assures Everton will extend Iwobi’s stay at Goodison

Lampard has played Alex Iwobi in all the 10 games the Merseyside club have played this season across all competitions

Everton manager and Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard has revealed Everton are in talks with Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi over a new contract.

Lampard made the disclosure after he was asked to confirm whether contract talks are ongoing between the club and the Nigerian during Thursday’s pre-match press conference. 

He told reporters: “Yeah, I know that Kevin (Thelwell) is speaking with Alex’s people on that front so we’ll see how that one develops”

Iwobi moved from the Emirates to Goodison Park in 2019 and will enter the final year of his contract next summer.

The 26-year-old initially struggled at the club under Carlos Ancheloti, but found his mojo and went on to flourish under Everton’s new manager.

Lampard has played the versatile Nigeria international in all the 10 games the Toffees have played this season across all competitions.

He has netted one goal and provided four assists during the period.  

Iwobi will travel with Everton to the  Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium on Saturday to face Spurs after their 7 games unbeaten run was ended by Manchester United
