Lakurawa bandits kill 2 police officers in Kebbi

Suspected Lakurawa bandits launched an attack on Natsini village in the Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing two police officers and rustling an unspecified number of cows.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, January 3, according to a statement released by the spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Abubakar, in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.
Abubakar detailed the attack: “On the Jan. 3, at about 0100hrs, armed hoodlums suspected to be Lakurawa bandits on motorcycles invaded Alhaji Lawal Black Farm and nearby Fulani settlements located at Natsini village, along Argungu/Kangiwa road and rustled unspecified number of cows.”

In response, a police Safer Highway patrol team engaged the bandits in a gunfight, forcing them to flee into the forest with gunshot wounds. Some of the rustled cows were successfully recovered during the operation.
Tragically, two police officers lost their lives during the encounter, he said. The Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, condemned the attack, expressing his condolences to the families of the fallen officers and praying for their souls to rest in peace.
The statement said the commissioner also conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the scene before visiting the Emir of Argungu, Sama’ila Muhammadu-Mera, to brief him on the efforts of security agencies to combat crime in the area. The Emir was assured of continued collaboration between security forces and local stakeholders to address the security challenges.
