The Lagos State government has heard the clarion call from colleagues of ailing former Super Eagles midfielder, Henry Nwosu, and has offered to bring him down from Asaba in Delta State for proper medical attention.
According to The Punch, Nwosu will arrive Lagos in the company of his sisters on Wednesday, November 16, to continue his medical treatment.
TheNiche had reported that the colleagues of the 59-year-old, who has been receiving treatment at the Asaba Specialist hospital in Delta State since February, reached out to billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola to come to the aid of the former footballer.
They also said his condition has continued to deteriorate, despite spending all his life savings on the ailment.
His former teammate, Segun Odegbami, who was one of those who cried out, said on Tuesday, that Nwosu, will now be transferred from Delta State to a well-equipped hospital in Lagos where he will receive further treatment for the undisclosed ailment.
He went on to say the move is to facilitate better medical treatment which will ultimately save his life. He, however, added that the Delta State government on its part has agreed to offset all his outstanding bills.
Odegbami said, “Hours after Monday’s alarm on Henry Nwosu’s health status, the earth has moved.
“There is some hopeful news to report. I believe it is right and proper to give an update. His health status remains the same – going southwards.

“Positive reactions have, however, been pouring in. Many concerned Nigerians are offering to lend support in any and every way possible. That now appears to create a problem – the nature and coordination of the support Henry Nwosu needs and can get, and how to offer it outside of any direct financial contribution to anybody,”
“The Delta State government has fulfilled its pledge by taking full financial responsibility for all of Henry’s care in Asaba. With his deteriorating situation, however, everyone in the loop of the conversations since yesterday (Monday) has agreed that Henry (Nwosu) needs to be moved immediately to a higher level of medical facilities and care,” Odegbami further said.
“The Governor of Lagos State, on being informed about it, directed immediately that the doors to Lagos State’s best medical facilities be thrown open to Henry. The Delta State government has been informed about this new plan and they are happy to cooperate and make it happen ASAP. The pledge by the Imo State government still sustains and all they need is information on developments.
“One of the big telecommunication companies in Lagos has made contact and wants to know what help is needed. They will be kept informed, just as the Femi Otedola Foundation will need a clearer picture of what is to be done. Members of Henry Nwosu’s family, his sisters that have been passing through this hell with him since February to date, are happy to have some guidance and better coordination of the specifics of what should be done,” he also added.
Meanwhile, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau who also visited Nwosu where he is receiving treatment on Tuesday, assured him that well-meaning Nigerians have agreed to come to his aid.
“I can assure you that all Nigerians, from our political leaders to business gurus and all football people, are interested in seeing you recover from this illness,” Gusau said in a statement.
