Lagos sees rising cases of domestic violence by men and women

More men are being beaten into a pulp by their wives in Lagos, with the authorities recording 340 such cases in the 10 months between September 2022 and July 2023.
Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) Executive Secretary, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, made the disclosure in the quarterly report of the agency in which she confirmed domestic violence from males also increased during the period.
She expressed concern over domestic violence perpetrated by either male or female saying, DSVA “is currently handling the cases with the aim to find amicable resolution.”
Lagos Joint Task Force on Implementation of the Executive Order on Safeguarding and Child Protection on October 31 began monitoring and assessment across the six education districts in the state.
The Joint Task Force is drawn from top level representatives of the Office of Education Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Lagos State Safety Commission, and State Universal Basic Education Board.

Ongoing monitoring exercise in schools
Vivour-Adeniyi disclosed the monitoring exercise began at the Lagos City College, Sabo-Yaba and has engaged more than 200 schools in Education Districts 4 and 5 while more than 90 schools have been visited to ascertain and measure compliance, per Vanguard.
“On-the-spot assessments were conducted at the schools to confirm the practical implementation of the policy and identify strengths and areas for improvement,” she said.
“The aim of the monitoring exercise is to ascertain the level of adoption and implementation of the Executive Order across all six education districts in Lagos State.
Kamaldeen Akodu, representative of the Office of Education Quality Assurance, stressed the need for schools to take precautionary measures to ensure safe learning environments.
Representative of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Jubril Yakub, urged school administrators to imbibe the import of the exercise, stressing it is corrective, not punitive.
