Lagos civil servants get pay rise to counter rising inflation

Inflation has been trending at about 21 per cent year-on-year, which means the purchasing power of Nigerians has eroded by that percentage. This has put a number of households in a dire strait. Lagos civil servants will at least have a respite from the biting inflation.

It is jubilation galore for civil servants in the employ of the Lagos State Government. On Tuesday, October 4, the state’s governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, informed the civil servants that they would soon enjoy salary increments.

Sanwo-Olu made this known while addressing the workers at the state secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.

The announcement elicited rousing applause from the civil servants. They also went dancing in showing their appreciation to the governor.

Sanwo-Olu told the civil servants: “I have looked around and I know that as a country, there is pressure. I know that, as a country, there is a high level of inflation.

 ‘’At our cabinet meeting, I instructed the Head of Service office and the Ministry of staff, training, and pensions to start work on how we are going to increase the entire salary of our public servants.’’
