Lady, lover arrested in hotel for possession of arms

-

Operatives of the Special Anti-cultism Squad, (SARS), Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 22-year-old single mother, Ayomide Adebanjo, and her lover, Dare Taiwo, over possession of a gun.

The arrest and detention of the lovers started on Saturday, after police received intelligence report that some hoodlums were hibernating in a hotel, preparing to head out to another hotel located at Alapere area of Ketu for an operation.

Reacting to the information, police stormed the hotel and recovered a locally made double barrel gun from the hotel room where the lovers had lodged for the night.

Adebanjo said: “On Friday night, my boyfriend and I went out to have fun. Before we knew what was happening, it was late. So we decided to spend the night in Money Mark Hotel at Ketu.  We got to the hotel at about 11p.m. and slept till the following day. We woke up when we heard someone banging on our room door. It was policemen.

“The time was about 6:30am; Dare opened the door for them. The policemen said they were from Alapere Police Station. They searched everywhere, but found nothing. Then, they checked the bed; it was my boyfriend that assisted them to raise the mattress. Underneath it, they found a black nylon which contained a gun. When they brought out the gun out, I was very surprised. I don’t know anything about the gun or how it got into that room.”

The woman further said: “I met Dare three months ago at Mile 12. I am an apprentice. I have a son, who is about three years old. I had him after I completed my secondary education. The father of my child abandoned me immediately I got pregnant. It was a church that took care of me till I put to bed. My baby is presently staying with my mother at Alakuko area, but my father is late.”

Taiwo, who works at a car wash centre, denied that the gun belonged to him.

He said; “I am surprised they discovered a gun in the hotel room. I have only been to that hotel twice before my arrest. I live with my aunt, which was why I took my girlfriend to a hotel to spend the night. After I paid for the hotel room, we moved into the room. We discovered that there was no television. I went back to the receptionist to complain. In fact, I didn’t want to lodge there again, but because it was very late, I had to reconsider and we went back to the room. If I had known, maybe I would not have lodged there. We don’t know anything about the gun found in our hotel room.”
