The vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election, Peter Obi, and President General of the pan-Igbo socio-cultural association, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, on Saturday condoled with President Muhammadu Buhari on the death of his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari.
In two separate condolence letters, the two leaders prayed that God Grant’s Kyari’s soul eternal rest.
Obi in his letter signed by his media aide, Valentine Obienyem particularly sympathised with President Buhari and the family and urged them to take the loss, though painful, as the will of God.
“Mr Obi prays to God to grant the Kyari family the needed strength and comfort over the loss of a patriarch.
“He also prays that God Almighty grant all that had died of the coronavirus pandemic eternal rest, and through His divine healing Hands to touch and clear the world of the deadly Covid19 disease,” the statement read.
Obienyem said Obi “further admonishes all and sundry to continue to abide by regulations and protocols stipulated by governmental and global health agencies to stay safe from the Corona Virus infection.”
Nwodo in a letter he personally signed said: “It is with shock that I learnt of demise of the Chief of Staff to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Abba Kyari, as a result of the deadly Coronavirus.
“On behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, I commiserate with President Mohammed Buhari and the good people of the country on this unfortunate development.
“By the death of Alhaji Abba Kyari, all Nigerians should now understand that nobody, both high and low, is exempt from this ravaging pandemic and should observe strictly all precautionary measures put in place, especially social distancing.
“This exhortation becomes more imperative because from reports, the virus is said not to be a city case alone anymore, but has crept into communities, making it more ominous and dangerous.
“May God save Nigeria.”
