Opposition political parties under the aegis of the Congress of Nigeria’s Political Parties (CNPP) in Kwara State have dissociated themselves from a report credited to the state IPAC chairman and publicity secretary that the council Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) is unconstitutional.
A statement issued by state CNPP Chairman, Adebayo Lawal; Secretary, OlufemiAdeleke; and Public Relations Officer, Abu Ifabiyi; queried why the IPAC made thepronouncement without carrying the entire members along.
“The IPAC Code of Conduct 2013, section 7 (i to ii) stipulates that the executive committee should carry out the instructions of the general body, function democratically by holding consultations with members/committees before taking any action requiring a consensus of members’ opinion,” the statement explained.
It said it is unfortunate that the state IPAC executives inaugurated in September have not communicated with members or held any general meeting in the first quarter of their tenure in negation of the code of conduct.
The CNPP urged the IPAC executive committee to exercise restraint and abide by the principle of the body on issues.
It also askedthe IPAC to ensure future pronouncements reflect the consensus of members’ opinion.
It commended the state government for setting up the TIC to avoid creating any lacuna for fifth columnist politicians to exploit.
The CNPP implored the government to conduct council elections as soon as it has the funds.
