The on-going trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki, has led to a disagreement among members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State.

Investigations by The Guardian in Ilorin showed that while the state PDP may have taken a position for continuation of the trial, some members oppose this stance.

Already, some party members are using a new platform, Movement for Genuine Change (MGC) to organise rallies in support of Saraki’s prosecution.

Reacting to the development in separate interviews with The Guardian in Ilorin, the state Chairman of the PDP, Chief Iyiola Oyedepo and the Publicity Secretary, Chief Rex Olawoye disagreed on the trial by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

Although Olawoye described his comments as “strictly personal” said: “From the first day of Saraki at the Senate chambers, it appears that the PDP is solidly behind him. I was one of those who endorsed him for the post of governor when I was still in their camp.

“I am not against Saraki as a person, but we are no longer in the same political camp. That is very certain. I believe that if he loses the seat of the Senate President, it is a loss to Kwara and its people. I am bound by my party’s position on the issue.

“Again, it must be emphatically stressed that the Kwara PDP was not responsible for petitions against Saraki as being alleged. I think above it all, we should allow God’s will to be done on it.”
