Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has named Dr Lola Sawyerr, Georgia-based policy analyst and a member of several diaspora bodies, including the Kwara State Association of Nigeria (North America), as his focal person on diaspora matters.

Dr. Sawyerr, who holds a Bachelor of Arts Economics and Masters of Economics, both from Clark Atlanta University, and a doctoral degree in curriculum, instruction and assessments from Walden University, has worked at various places as a teacher, tax analyst, statistician, and policy analyst — all in the United States of America. She was also a Deputy Manager at the Equity Bank of Nigeria. She is currently an educator in the Georgia State School system.

According to a release by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, Sawyerr’s appointment, a first in the state, underscores the desire of the administration to harvest the input and expertise of diaspora Kwarans in the development of the north central state, the government said in a statement on Wednesday.

She was until her appointment the public relations officer of KSANG (Georgia Chapter), a position she assumed in 2014; national treasurer of KSANG National between 2018 and 2020; and a member of the African Community Centre Indianapolis between 2001 and 2005.

A statement announcing her appointment said it was based on the excellent report of the nominee’s pedigrees and loyalty, steadfastness and favourable disposition to the cause of the administration, adding that the Governor urges her to bring her wealth of experience and sterling qualities to bear on the state assignment.
