Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kwara State has suspended all programs for the celebration of Easter by Christians in the state.
The state chairman of CAN, Most Reverend Paul Adegboyega Olawoore, said that the association took the decision at its emergency meeting held on Tuesday.
Olawoore said Christians in the state should comply with the directives of the state government to check the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
He stated: “All programs relating to the Easter celebration which include; Palm Sunday rally scheduled for Sunday 5th April 2020 and the Easter Monday Galilee get together for all Christians hitherto slated for Monday, 13th April, 2020 are hereby suspended.”
The CAN leader said that the government should increase its sensitization campaign by translating it into all local languages spoken in the state on Radio and Television gingles for proper education of citizens while government should make available to all citizens hand sanitizers, Test kits and other useful medical supplies to curtail the spread of the virus.
“We equally recommend that the state government should make available to her citizens: Hand Sanitizers, Test kits and other useful medical supplies as a way of curtailing the spread of the virus.
“That the state government should also ensure that the sensitization about the COVID-19 epidemic is done in our local languages on all Radio stations for proper edification of her citizens,” he added.
Olawoore said the CAN appreciated the proactive measures the state government was taking to forestall spread virus to the state.
He urged the government to enforce the quarantine law of the state and restrict needless movement of the residents.
The CAN chairman advised Christians to abide with the association’s directive and continue to pray and seek God’s mercy over the crisis of the virus.
