Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most. Rev. Matthew Kukah, has donated tricycles to youths to mark his 70th birthday.
The respected cleric announced the initiative at a dinner and special mass service organised in his honour in Sokoto.
Asides the tricycles for youths, Kukah said that a scholarship bursary scheme, along with other empowerments, were also designed to support people especially the less privileged.
Kukah explained that the efforts were aimed at facilitating human empowerment and encourage self reliance, especially among youths in recognition of the challenges bedeviling the nation.
He expressed thanks for the purposeful life, adding that the gesture was part of the fulfilment of his desires to empower youths and contribute to the development of the society.

According to him, the scholarship bursaries were to promote sanity and inculcate right education to people. Kukah lamented that ignorance had taken over some important segments of daily lives in the society.
Kukah stressed that proper education of citizens would surely go a long way to promoting right developments, prevention of youths’ restiveness and ensure constructive direction on shaping people’s lives and facilitate growth in all sectors.
Chairman of the anniversary’s organising committee, Rev. Nuhu Iliya, described Kukah as an epitome of good leadership.
According to him, the present empowerment scheme is the beginning and 40 tricycles would be distributed to youths to engage in productive commercial activities.
