Burnley boss, Vincent Kompany, has reflected on his team’s 3-0 loss to Premier League champions, Manchester City in the first game of the new campaign at Tuff More on Friday night.

The Clarets, despite their endeavor on the night, failed to give the home fans much to cheer about, as they were well beaten.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 4th minute and followed it up with a brace 25 minutes later before Rodri added a third in the second half to seal three points for Pep Guardiola’s men.

Speaking after the encounter, Kompany said there is no shame in losing to the treble winners.

He also pointed out that his team would have probably gotten something from the game if they had converted the chances they created in both halves.

He told Sky Sports: “You can surprise the main man [Guardiola] sometimes, but he is the one that surprises the most.

“There’s nothing more than committing to an idea and a game plan. Then in the game, we concede after three minutes and you have to live with the consequences.

“We had that spell in the first half where we created dangerous possession, chances and recovered balls in dangerous areas. And another spell in the second half.

“Those moments where you have momentum you have to do something and we were dangerous but not dangerous enough. Against the best team in the world, it is always going to be difficult.

“I said to the team before the game, you want the result, everyone does, but you want to get something out of the game, a moment, a tackle, something to build on.”
