Ajaka, however, added that his party, SDP is free to approach the court to seek a redress

Muritala Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) gubernatorial candidate in the just concluded Kogi State election, has hinted that he is unlikely to challenge his defeat in court.
He made this known while speaking on a Channels Television programme, where he insisted that approaching the election petition tribunal over the disappointing result declared by INEC would be a futile effort.
Ajaka, however, added that his party is free to approach the court to seek redress, but he would not be doing so as an individual.
“What am I going to court to do when the same INEC that did this rigging is going to come as a witness to defend what they did? So it is a waste of time. To do what? Except for the party people because I’m hugely disappointed. If the INEC chairman allows this to stand, they are looking for trouble in Nigeria.” he said.

The SDP candidate went on to criticise the INEC chairman, saying despite his assurances that the election would be transparent, the poll ended with an “unjust outcome”.
He went on to lament that his party and supporters invested time, resources and energy in the election, but ended up with nothing.
He further warned that if such irregularities are allowed to persist, it could lead to widespread unrest in Nigeria.
Ajaka added: “You gave me assurance that the election would be transparent, you allowed me to waste my time, spend my money, and mobilize my people, only for you to write the results. Even if I’m not sad about it, you expect my supporters to be happy.
“I assure you if they allow this to stand as they are allowed in all the states now, they are calling for anarchy in this country.”
