Kogi governor, Bello, stoned after prayers

-

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, was stoned on Friday, August 26, 2016, immidiately after the Jumat prayer in Lokoja, the state capital, Premium Times reports.

While the details of the incident are still sketchy, some witnesses said that it happened at the Lokoja Central Mosque in the old market area of the capital. Premium Times reported that the discontented people also carried few placards while chanting anti-government slogans. Bello was reportedly pelted with rotten fruits and vegetables.

The source said: “The situation in this state is even worse than what the residents are doing. The situation is pathetic.” One of the government’s officials in the state noted that it was the second time in two weeks Governor Bello would be so attacked as grievances mount about the depreciating living conditions in the state. “He recently attended an event in Ankpa, and residents there defied heavy security to stone him. We don’t understand what’s going on,” he said. The police later dispersed the crowd with teargas. Governor Bello was just yesterday, August 25, spotted with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Statehouse instead of attending the 4th Progressive Governance Lecture Series in Kaduna State.
