Kieran Tierney scores season opener in Arsenals’ 5-0 thrashing of Norwich

Arsenal left back, Kieran Tierney scored his first goal of the season, as Arsenal comfortably dispatch Norwich at Carrow Road

Arsenal tightened their grip on top 4 after comfortably dispatching relegation threatened Norwich City 5-0 at Carrow Road.

Arsenal looked sharp from the start and were quickly rewarded when Tierney pounced on Ozan Kabak’s poor pass, allowing the visitors to string together a neat passing move involving Gabriel Martinelli, Lacazette, and Odegaard that was finished off by Saka.

Norwich rarely threatened despite a few forays forward in the first half, The home side were restricted by the well marshalled Arsenal defense. 

Kieran Tierney made it 2-0 to Arsenal, as he scored his first goal of the season in the 44th minute after receiving a through pass from Martin Odegaard.

It went from bad to worse for Norwich when Alexandre Lacazette found Bukayo Saka in the 67th minute, and he scored Arsenals’ third goal and his brace.

Arsenal was awarded a penalty kick in the 82nd minute after Ozan Kabak tripped  Alexandre Lacazette in the penalty box. He dispatched the resultant spot kick to make it 4-0. 

The gunners put the icing on the cake when Emile Smith Rowe came from the bench to score after an intended pass from Pepe was deflected into his part to end the game 5-0 in favour of Arsenal. 

After the heavy defeat, Norwich coach Dean Smith said: “We’ve got to be better than that and we are better than that.”

He added “Unfortunately the standards have dropped off massively from the Manchester United game.

“There are reasons for that but I’m not here to make excuses.”
