The sister-in-law of the Chief of Staff of Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, and the other woman kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in Kagara town of the state have been released.
The duo, our correspondent learnt, were released on Wednesday in another state that is far away from Niger State after a ransom was allegedly paid.
It would be recalled that the gunmen stormed the town, shooting sporadically, while abducting the sister-in-law of the CoS, Alh. Ibrahim Balarabe, along with the second woman over a week ago to an unknown location.
But, efforts to know how much was paid or not to the abductors failed as those involved were keeping sealed lips on it.
However, a source close to the families said their release was secured after payment of ransom by the families.
When a call was put through to the husband of the second abducted woman, Ojukaiye, he did not respond.
The husbands of the two women are Special Marshall in the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Kagara.
It was also learnt that due to the traumatic experiences both went through, they are said to be presently receiving medication.
When contacted to confirm about the release of the women, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abubakar Muhammad, said that the women were yet to be rescued, saying the police command was still working out modalities to secure their release. “If there is any news about the women, the media would be contacted,” he insisted.
