Kidnapped Benue commissioner regains freedom

The commissioner and three persons he was travelling with — Honourable Agbo Ode, one of his in-laws and the driver — were taken captive at Adankari Junction along the Otukpo-Ado Road in the North-Central State.

Benue State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Ekpe Ogbu, has regained his freedom following his abduction on Sunday night.

The commissioner and three persons he was travelling with — Honourable Agbo Ode, one of his in-laws and the driver — were taken captive at Adankari Junction along the Otukpo-Ado Road in the North-Central State.

The Benue commissioner was said to have attended a Church programme, where Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South Senatorial district, dedicated his newly inaugurated Campaign Council to God at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Otukpo and was going to his village in NDEKMA, Utonkon District of Ado LGA after the Church programme before the incident happened.

Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Samuel Ortom, Colonel Paul Hemba (retd), revealed that Ogbu regained his freedom on Tuesday.

He told Channels Television in a telephone conversation that more details on his release would be made available.

It is yet to be ascertained if any money was paid as ransom to secure the commissioner’s release.

The state government had on Sunday explained that the Hilux van the victim was travelling in has been recovered by the police in Otukpo, vowing to rescue the commissioner unhurt.
