After returning from the 1996 Olympics, ex-Super Eagles captain, Kanu Nwankwo, underwent a medical examination at Inter Milan, which revealed a serious heart defect. He successfully underwent surgery in November 1996 to replace an aortic valve.
This experience led to the establishment of the Kanu Heart Foundation (KHF) to help young African children who suffer heart defects.
Since the launch of the Foundation, it has helped many families with the newest one travelling to India in a few days with the support of many Nigerians.
This was disclosed by Kanu through his twitter handle where he also posted a picture of himself with the beneficiaries.
He tweeted: “Please let us pray for Kanu Heart Foundation patients going to India so the operation will be successful. We got more.”
